English

A reading from the Epistle of Saint Paul the Apostle to Timothy Beloved: Remember that Jesus Christ, descended from David, has risen from the dead, according to the Gospel I preach. For this I suffer, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with heavenly glory. You, however, have followed my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love and endurance, my persecutions and sufferings: all that happened to me at Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, and the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. Indeed, all who wish to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

Sequéntia † sancti Evangélii secúndum Matthǽum.

English

Continuation of the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

mt 10,26–32

English

At that time Jesus said to his disciples: Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, and nothing hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light, and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim from the rooftops. Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Therefore do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I too will acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
