About Missale Online
Missale Online provides the texts of the traditional Latin Mass — also known as the “Tridentine Mass” or Mass in the usus antiquior — for every day of the liturgical year: Latin and English side by side, for following the prayers at Mass or for study. The basis is the Missale Romanum, 1962 edition, the reference edition for the extraordinary form of the Roman rite.
What will I find here?
- Calendar — today with all Mass texts; use the calendar strip to jump to any date.
- Proper — the changing texts for all feasts: de Tempore (liturgical year), de Sanctis (saints' feasts), Common (common formularies).
- Ordinary — the recurring parts of the Mass (prayers at the foot of the altar, Gloria, Credo, Canon …).
- Bible — the Vulgata Clementina, book by book.
- Psalter — all 150 psalms in Latin, with available translations.
- Feast calendar — the whole year at a glance; also includes Calendar subscriptions (iCal) for Google, Apple and Outlook Calendar.
- Schott 1927 — the complete Missal as a PDF download.
How to use the calendar
Choose a day in the calendar strip and your language above using DE · EN · NL. This choice applies to the website and all reading texts. The reading toolbar shows your language, Latin or Both; A− and A+ change the text size. Reading options let you show or hide the Ordinary, rubrics and annotations.
Key: classes and liturgical colours
The 1962 Missal assigns each day a class — this indicates the rank of the feast and determines which Mass formulary takes precedence:
- Class I — the highest feasts (e.g. Easter, Christmas, Pentecost and major feasts of the Lord).
- Class II — major feasts and Sundays.
- Class III — simple feasts and commemorations of saints.
- Class IV — ferial days (weekdays without a feast) and commemorations.
The liturgical colour of the vestments follows the day and season:
- White — joy: feasts of the Lord, Marian feasts, confessors, Christmastide and Eastertide.
- Red — Holy Spirit and martyrdom: Pentecost, martyrs' feasts and feasts of the Cross.
- Green — the time after Epiphany and after Pentecost.
- Violet — penance and expectation: Advent, Lent and Ember days.
- Rose — only Gaudete (Third Sunday of Advent) and Laetare (Fourth Sunday of Lent).
- Black — Good Friday and Requiem Masses.
Where do the texts come from?
The calendar and order of Mass follow the Missale Romanum 1962 and the 1960 Code of Rubrics. The text selection distinguishes the individual editions: Latin and English texts from Divinum Officium, German Schott texts from the stated edition and translations by missale.online. The 1927 Schott PDF download is a separate historical edition; it should not be equated with the Missal of 1962. Details of its origin and reuse are in the list of sources.
We use published sources and our own translations. Each language and text section has a defined source order. The published primary source takes precedence; only a gap is filled from the second source. If both are missing, the passage is explicitly marked as not yet translated.
The table shows the configured order, not the text coverage of a source. A source may have no published translation in a language yet. The API identifies the actual source of each passage.
