Præsta, quǽsumus, omnípotens Deus: ut, qui gloriósos Mártyres fortes in sua confessióne cognóvimus, pios apud te in nostra intercessióne sentiámus.

Grant, we beseech You, almighty God, that we who know how courageously Your holy Martyrs have confessed the faith, may experience their goodness as they intercede for us with You.

Lesson from the letter of St. Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews Brethren: The Saints by faith conquered kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, recovered strength from weakness, became valiant in battle, put to flight armies of aliens. Women had their dead restored to them by resurrection. Others were tortured, refusing to accept release, that they might find a better resurrection. Others had experience of mockery and stripes, yes, even of chains and prisons. They were stoned, they were sawed asunder, they were tempted, they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, distressed, afflicted of whom the world was not worthy wandering in deserts, mountains, caves and holes in the earth. And all these, approved by the testimony of faith, were found in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gloriósus Deus in Sanctis suis: mirábilis in majestáte, fáciens prodígia. Déxtera tua, Dómine, glorificáta est in virtúte: déxtera manus tua confrégit inimícos. Allelúja, allelúja. Córpora Sanctórum in pace sepúlta sunt, et nómina eórum vivent in generatiónem et generatiónem. Allelúja.

God is glorious in His Saints, wonderful in majesty, a worker of wonders. V. Your right hand, O Lord, is magnificent in power; Your right hand has shattered the enemy. Alleluia, alleluia. V. The bodies of the Saints are buried in peace, but their name lives on and on. Alleluia.

Mirábilis Deus in Sanctis suis: Deus Israël, ipse dabit virtútem et fortitúdinem plebi suæ: benedíctus Deus, allelúja. (sed post Septuagesimam dicitur) Deus.

God is wonderful in His Saints; the God of Israel is He Who gives power and strength to His people. Blessed be God! Alleluia.

Benedíctio tua, Dómine, larga descéndat: quæ et múnera nostra, deprecántibus sanctis Martýribus tuis, tibi reddat accépta, et nobis sacraméntum redemptiónis effíciat.

May Your bountiful blessing descend upon us, O Lord, and by the prayers of Your holy Martyrs may it make our gifts acceptable to You, and make them a sacrament of redemption for us.

Et si coram homínibus torménta passi sunt, Deus tentávit eos: tamquam aurum in fornáce probávit eos, et quasi holocáusta accépit eos.

For if before men they be punished, God tried them; as gold in the furnace, He proved them, and as sacrificial offerings He took them to Himself.

Cœléstibus refécti sacraméntis et gáudiis: súpplices te, Dómine, deprecámur; ut, quorum gloriámur triúmphis, protegámur auxíliis.

We who have been fed with heavenly sacraments and joys, humbly pray You, O Lord, that we may enjoy the protection of those in honor of whose victories we rejoice.

Intret in conspéctu tuo, Dómine, gémitus compeditórum: redde vicínis nostris séptuplum in sinu eórum: víndica sánguinem Sanctórum tuórum, qui effúsus est. Deus, venérunt gentes in hereditátem tuam: polluérunt templum sanctum tuum: posuérunt Jerúsalem in pomórum custódiam.
